“I am a chaotic first class and can run at a high pace all day long”

said Veer Opdenkamp (53) from Rotterdam. With the re-mind she rests more often. The regular, subtle signal helps her to feel and focus again and again.

Veer has a busy job as a practice supervisor in a hospital and is a go-getter by nature. “I'm busy with everything at the same time, my thoughts are flying in all directions. As a result, I was destroyed at the end of the day.”

Mindfulness and ACT

Veer turned to Isabel Soares for a mindfulness course. She also follows Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), where she processes the past through acceptance and learns to focus on matters that she can influence. Isabel also introduced her to the re-mind. Veer: “It helps me a lot. I wear it in the strap on my wrist and let it vibrate every 24 minutes.”

Body scan

With each vibration she does a short 'body scan'. Where am I with my thoughts? Do I have the right focus? Is my posture tense or have I been sitting still for too long? And how is my breathing? “By thinking about it for a moment and really feeling it, you can relax.” When she notices that she is worrying, she asks herself two questions: Is it important? And can I influence it? Veer: “The solution often presents itself. I can then do something about it or I divert my attention. The focus that I should have on the things I can influence then comes back.” She cannot achieve this without a re-mind. “I lost him for a while and I noticed that immediately.”

The re-mind helps her to take good care of herself. “I am constantly being called back, which means I build up less tension and feel much calmer in the evening.”
