“I treat two groups of patients: people with breathing and voice complaints and children or teenagers with abnormal oral habits. The first group consists of adults, the second consists largely of 10 to 17 year olds. They can all do something with the re-mind, so I'm glad I discovered this tool. The devices in my practice are in use almost continuously.
Mouth open or closed?
When people come to me for the first time, I give them the re-mind to take home. Only use it for a week, I say, purely for observation. Every time they feel him shaking, they have to look at themselves. Do I have my mouth open or closed? Where is the tip of my tongue? Where do I feel my breath? Am I sitting upright or slumped? Did I tighten my abs? They don't have to do anything with it yet. Just observe: what is my attitude or behavior? After a week I see the patient back in my practice. He or she is then aware of the 'problem'.
I take the re-mind again and first teach them the technique for a new habit that they have to learn. It sometimes takes a while for them to master it sufficiently. When I think they can start practicing at home, we phase out the treatments and I give them the re-mind to take home. Then I usually ask them to order one themselves or buy it.
